At Legacy Mental Health, we offer individual therapy sessions tailored to each client's unique needs. Our compassionate therapists provide a safe space for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings, helping them gain insights and develop effective coping strategies for issues like anxiety, depression, and stress management.
The term Legacy by definition means "something of value transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past." As I reflect upon my life I noticed people who laid up for me a legacy, a promise and hope. The most influential people who have impacted my life and who established a legacy for me were my grandparents. They established a legacy, it was the legacy of care, compassion, and goodwill to mankind. I saw kindness, love, patience, meekness, faithfulness, and gentleness and these are the qualities I bring into the therapeutic relationships.
I am a believer that everyone's birth was triggered in the earth-realm for a purpose. There is a purpose attached to your life. I believe in helping people reach that purpose. Through the work that I do I seek to restore hope, and establish a legacy of abundant life.
My goal as a fully licensed psychologist is to create an environment where you feel safe to be transparent to address whatever issues concern you. I look forward to entering into an alliance with you so you may begin the healing process, create a legacy and fulfill your life purpose.
Dr. Char specializes in working with clients wanting to build positive racial identity, develop self love and heal from racialized trauma. She is also passionate about training, mentoring and supervising students and masters level clinicians.
I believe people have a set of values (what they most care about), and often a lot of our stress and lack of fulfillment in life can be caused by having trouble connecting to those values. I also emphasize building insight during therapy sessions because I believe we can make the best decisions for ourselves and our loved ones when we better understand ourselves and the world around us.
I have a client-oriented approach and treat therapy as a collaborative process where we form a partnership to address your goals. I focus on short-term goals first to help people with what they most would like to work on and then move to long-term goals in hopes of leading to long-lasting health.
I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan and am licensed as a
Temporary Limited License Psychologist by the State of Michigan. I am trained to work with individuals,
couples, and groups. My expertise includes boundary setting, improving communication skills, enhancing
self-esteem, working with those with ADHD and autism, and addressing anxiety, depression, anger, and
trauma through evidence-based practices.

Dr. Char uses a model of training she developed called the Bridge Model. The BRIDGE Model for Facilitating Training provides a structured approach to effective learning and skill development.
Building a safe learning environment is a key part of my training. I set clear intentions, establish group norms, and normalize discomfort as part of the learning process.
Reflecting on personal and systemic barriers is another crucial aspect. I encourage participants to explore their biases, discuss societal influences, and analyze real-life case examples.
Introducing and modeling effective techniques is something I prioritize. I teach foundational concepts, demonstrate skills through live or recorded sessions, and encourage observational learning.
Developing practical skills through experiential learning is integral to my sessions. I incorporate role-plays, provide structured feedback, and simulate challenging scenarios.
Guiding reflection and group discussion is also a significant part of my training. I facilitate debriefing sessions, peer discussions, and reflective journaling to help participants process their experiences.
Finally, Equipping participants with resources for continued growth is essential. I ensure they have access to practical tools, encourage ongoing practice, and foster a long-term commitment to integrating new skills into their professional work.
